Cotswold Bowls Centre

E-commerce online shop

Cotswold Bowls Centre required a new online shop to sell their lawn bowls products. The website needed to be clean and simple to manage, allowing products to be updated easily.

Since the launch of the website, Cotswold Bowls Centre has successfully processed regular sales. They have been able to adjust pricing and change product details as required.

The site is built on a responsive template that works for mobile and desktop devices. We adjusted CSS styles to improve the overall look and feel of the website from desktop, tablet and smartphone devices. There is a meta tag manager in the site for all products and pages within the website. This has helped set all meta details for the site, build a sitemap and submitted it to Google. The site has seen progressive organic growth within the Google search engine.

Built on the latest Joomla CMS with VirtueMart shopping cart on a gantry template, with a one-page checkout and PayPal payment gateway, the shop allows customers to choose, checkout, and monitor their orders progress. An SSL certificate on the server protects customer security. Using Wicko Design’s website maintenance service the site receives regular site audits, admin protection and full site backup to another server, ensuring all details are protected.

Visit Cotswold Bowles Centre and browse the bowls products.

ONI website

ONI

Conversion of website to WordPress

ONI have developed the Nanoimager, the world’s first desktop super-resolution microscope, capable of visualising, tracking and imaging individual molecules in living cells with 20nm resolution.

ONI engaged us to help manage and maintain their existing website. The site had been developed in house by our client using Ginger – an open-source automation framework. To help them maintain the website and make changes and updates, ONI required a web design partner experienced in HTML coding.

Wicko Design looked after all aspects of the website for ONI, running all changes through the source code management tool GitHub, enabling us to collaborate and share updates with our client and test changes before going live.

In the website’s original format, making changes to content required utilising a complex editing system which took time and required a level of technical ability. As ONI grew in size, the volume of updates increased significantly, exposing the limitations of Ginger. It was decided to migrate the web content to a platform that ONI could more easily manage and update internally.

For the final phase of our involvement in this project, Wicko Design converted the ONI website from Ginger to WordPress. We rebuilt ONI’s website on the new platform, replicating the dynamic design, the fresh, clean layout and the stunning, super-high-resolution imagery.

Kid-A

E-commerce website for get go fone

Working with our client, award-winning creative solutions agency Kid-A, we designed, developed, tested and launched this e-commerce website for a new mobile phone accessory brand get go fone. Our brief was to create a website that delivered a seamless, hands-free retail operation – with the additional challenge that it needed to be up and running within just 12 weeks!

We developed the website in WordPress, selecting to use this off-the-shelf platform because it allowed us to deliver a fully functional e-commerce website in a fraction of the time and for significantly less budget than a bespoke solution would have required.

The versatility of WordPress gave us the creative scope to design a visually impactful website that reflects get go fone’s branding and provides an attractive showcase for the products being retailed. We utilised the WooCommerce plugin to optimise future scalability and to ensure the site has the capability to integrate with virtually any service provider.

We incorporated a wide range of functionality, integrating the website with other e-commerce systems, including solutions for stock management and customer payments (we introduced our client to their payment gateway partner Gr8pay). The website delivers an intuitive user experience. Visitors can browse by accessory category or use the search tool and can zoom in on images for high-resolution detail.

A key design consideration was making checkout as clear and straightforward as possible. We achieved this by auto-populating information, minimising mouse clicks and clearly showing shoppers where they are in the checkout process. Customer security was also a priority, and our client engaged a specialist company to undertake ‘penetration testing’, in order to make sure the site we built conforms to the highest compliance standards.

Wicko Design continues to work closely with Kid-A. We have responsibility for all aspects of get go fone’s web presence, including editing and uploading new content, adding features and functionality, ongoing updates and maintenance – in addition to hosting the website on a dedicated server and regularly backing up data.

Exact Kitchens from Wokingham near Reading briefed us to update their website. They wanted to make it mobile-friendly, but images needed to be big enough to be displayed on large screens in their showroom.

The website displays high-quality images from our clients’ product range and customer case studies. We optimised images for the web while ensuring quality and detail were retained

The website was built using the latest Joomla CMS. As well as having a responsive web template, it has a fully smartphone-friendly web-based admin section.
